2025 PSTN and ISDN shutdown
In 2025, the analogue telephone network will be shut down. From 2023, you will no longer be able to place orders for new telephone lines and ISDN. The replacement for the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is IP technology, which runs over the Internet. Of course, you don’t have to wait until 2023 to start making the most of IP technology.
Everything in the Cloud
Today, many organisations operate their own on-site telephone systems or PBX. However, on-site telephone equipment requires purchasing, installation and on-going maintenance. The alternative is to choose a Cloud-based telephone system where everything is offsite. Your data is stored securely on Cloud servers accessible via the Internet. Cloud telephony is easy to setup, there is no hardware investment and minimal maintenance.
HD Voice
One of the first benefits you will notice on moving to Cloud telephony is an improvement in the sound quality of your calls. Typically, voice over the Internet (VoIP) comes with high quality HD Voice audio. Calls across your system are also free so your employees can call each other for nothing.
Enable remote working
Many PBX phone systems do not offer a remote working option or it can be difficult and expensive to setup. Cloud telephony enables your employees to work remotely from anywhere. You can send and receive calls through your computer and mobile. You can keep the same office telephone number and extensions.
Advanced features
Cloud telephony provides a wide range of advanced business features such as auto attendant, call forwarding, voicemail, call recording, video conferencing and instant messaging. Call reporting can provide you with valuable business insights and help you identify areas that need improvement, such as call waiting times, agent performance and lost calls. Cloud telephony also integrates with numerous third party applications such as CRM, facilities management and accounting software
On-site PBX disadvantages
Traditional or legacy on-site telephone systems have a number of disadvantages. Once purchased, the hardware will need to be professionally installed and thereafter regularly maintained. Over time, your phone system will need modifications, firmware upgrades and repairs. An on-site telephone system is also vulnerable to power outages, fire, theft and flood. During an emergency, bad weather or natural disaster, it might be impossible to get on-site technical support for a PBX. A business without a working telephone system is in trouble.
Disaster recovery
Cloud-based communications provide reliability, resilience and security. Because your phone system is in the Cloud, a local crisis does not have to interrupt your business. If your office loses power, burns down or floods, your phone system remains intact and operational. You can move to a temporary location or have your staff work remotely from home, and quickly continue trading as normal.
Flexible and scalable
Traditional communications platforms are too rigid to accommodate rapid growth. As your organisation undergoes change, moves offices, opens new sites and hires additional workers, your communications must be able to adapt quickly. Unfortunately, traditional on-site PBXs can make scaling your business a slow, complicated, labour intensive and expensive undertaking. In contrast, Cloud-based communications make it easy to add new users, setup new departments and open new branch offices. Cloud telephony also enables you to add new features and integrate the latest business applications the moment you need them.
