CityPoint on London’s Moorgate, has been awarded the ISO 22301:2012 Lloyds Register Quality Assurance for Business Continuity Management Systems – becoming the first managed property in Europe to achieve the accreditation.
In another first, all suppliers and contractors associated with getting the building ready for business were involved in the accreditation process.
As a unique and iconic building in the City of London, CityPoint provides approximately 65,642 sq metres (706,557 sq ft) of lettable space, with almost 90% of the property acting as office accommodation. The remainder is made up of shops and restaurants at ground floor level, car parking, a fitness centre and storage at basement level.
With CityPoint aiming to deliver a resilient, cutting edge IT environment that would support the needs of the building, specialist IT integrator, Modern Networks, played a crucial role in the certification process.
“CityPoint isn’t simply an iconic building, it’s an enterprise all of its own. We needed to support its internal and external service users, a range of business processes and, of course, the technology and physical infrastructure. Just like any business, success depended on every one of thousands of different elements working together,” said James Tizzard, Managing Director of Modern Networks
As well as designing and implementing a new, robust and fully assured architecture, CityPoint involved Modern Networks and all associated contractors in its regular Business Continuity Forum, working with the management team to extend assurance out to all connected business systems and processes.
As Lee Murray, building manager at CityPoint explained, this certification was crucial – with business continuity among his main priorities.
“Risk management is as critical to CityPoint as it is any other enterprise. We have thousands of stakeholders within the building that rely on the efficiency and continuity of all our physical and virtual systems and processes. Communications technology is, of course, central to this – which is why we chose to work with Modern Networks: to make sure it was done right.
“Modern Networks wasn’t just instrumental in developing the new network, but in working with us to achieve to ISO 22301:2012.”
